Number of Homes Sold

Data on the number of sales in a community can help give you a sense of how large that housing market is, whether there are more large homes or more small homes selling in that community, or whether the number of homes sold in the community is increasing or decreasing. That's the data provided in the charts immediately below.

One of the striking characteristics of the housing market in our area in 2008 and 2009 is that the number of sales in most communties has dropped fairly substantially, even in communities where prices have continued to increase. You'll see these reductions in all of the charts below, especially in those based on tax record data for communities where there were a lot of new houses being built and sold prior to 2008 (e.g., Erie and Broomfield).

Because the drop in the number of sales is such a critical characteristic of the 2008/2009 market, we've put together charts summarizing the amount that sales have dropped relative to the prior years (2004 through 2007). We've also put together charts tracking whether sales are currently increasing or decreasing relative to the low numbers of 2008 & 2009.

If you'd prefer to look at these data with a community focus...just the data for Boulder or Arvada for example...go to the section called Data for Each Community.
